Suicide Prevention Week 2024

It’s National Suicide Prevention Week, Sept. 8-14. In fact, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP.org) recognizes the entire month of September as National Suicide Prevention Month, to rally the public to create awareness of this leading cause of death, and inspire more and more people to learn how they can play a role in their communities in helping to save lives.

God’s Mercy After Tragedies

How do we reconcile a tragedy like suicide with God’s mercy? Watch Fr. Chris Alar, MIC, co-author of After Suicide: There’s Hope or Them and for You, as he shares his own personal story of conversion through the suicide of his beloved grandmother; the power of Divine Mercy; and his witness that God can create a greater good from any tragedy.

Hope After Suicide

The loss of a loved one (suicide or any cause of death) is perhaps the most difficult of all topics to talk about. Fr. Chris Alar, MIC, co-author of After Suicide: There’s Hope or Them and for You, as he shares, based on personal and pastoral experience, a fact we know to be true: Even in the midst of such darkness, God’s mercy is present. There is hope for the soul of the departed, and there is hope for those left behind.

Is Prayer Timeless?

The Catholic Church teaches that when someone takes their own life, it doesn’t mean that they automatically lose their soul. Watch Fr. Chris Alar, MIC, co-author of After Suicide: There’s Hope or Them and for You, as he takes this a step further and shows how your prayers today can help someone who has died for any reason, even years ago, at the moment of their judgment.
